YOUTH FLY FISHING  ·  AGES 6-17

“The secret of life is having something exciting to look forward to.”

The Joe Humphreys’ Fly Fishing Stream School

Joe Humphreys has been fishing since he was six years old. For over 90 years he has lived, breathed, taught, and competed in this sport. He says this about getting young people to the water:

“Nothing succeeds like success. When you catch a fish, you’re off and running. You never forget.”

This program is designed to get every young person to that moment.

WHAT THIS IS

Not a fishing lesson. A lifelong pursuit.

Most youth fishing programs teach casting first. This program teaches observation first.

Joe’s method begins at the water’s edge - watching before casting. Reading the stream. Learning what’s underneath the surface. Then making the right cast to the right spot.

“Kids are the future of this wonderful sport.”

- JOE HUMPHREYS

Three program formats. Two tracks (trout and warm water). Ages 6-17.

Every student leaves with real skill - not a participation ribbon, but a cast they control and knots they can tie in the dark.

THE LOOK UP MOMENT

“Look up. You’ve been staring at the water from the moment we made the first cast. I’d like to stop and live the moment.”

“One of the most beautiful sounds in the spring to me is a red-winged blackbird on its song. Or it can simply be the change of the clouds above. Those are cherished moments. The good Lord has given us such a beautiful place to fish. When you don’t take time to recognize and enjoy it and appreciate it and be thankful - you’re missing part of the game.”

- JOE HUMPHREYS, LIVE THE STREAM (2016)
