Primary goal this map serves: Brand authority — establish the Trout Psychology Method as the recognized standard in fly fishing education
Total keywords mapped: 187
No search volume figures in this document are sourced from a keyword tool. We do not currently have Google Keyword Planner, Ahrefs, Semrush, or GSC access for troutpsychology.com. Publishing invented monthly-volume numbers would be fabrication, so we have not done it.
Instead, every keyword carries an Est. Demand band — a directional, analyst-estimated bucket based on query structure, geographic scope, and category norms. These bands are estimates, not measurements. They are useful for relative ranking within this list and for nothing else. Do not put them in a client-facing forecast, a traffic model, or a revenue projection.
Estimated demand bands:
| Band | Rough interpretation (US monthly, directional only) |
|---|---|
| VH | Very high — national head term, thousands+ |
| H | High — national mid-tail, high hundreds to low thousands |
| M | Medium — regional or specific long-tail, tens to low hundreds |
| L | Low — narrow long-tail, single digits to low tens |
| VL | Very low / near-zero measured — category-creating, unmeasured, or brand-new phrasing |A VL band is not a reason to skip a keyword. Several of the highest-value terms in this map (
how to think like a trout, trout feeding lie, neurodivergent friendly outdoor instruction) are VL precisely because nobody has built the category yet. That is the authority opportunity, not a disqualifier.Action item for Phase 1: get GSC + GA4 connected and pull a real volume pass. Replace this column with sourced figures before any budget decision is made on it. See

| Pri | Priority 1 (do first) · 2 (do next) · 3 (backlog / opportunistic) |
| AI Risk | Zero-click / AI-answer risk. High = AI Overviews or ChatGPT answers it outright, click unlikely. Med = AI gives a partial answer, users still click for depth, video, or a person. Low = AI cannot satisfy it — needs local specificity, recency, booking, personality, or a human relationship. |
| Target Page Type | The page that should own this keyword |
| Est. Demand | Analyst estimate only — see honesty statement above |
| 90d? | Yes = realistically winnable inside 90 days from a standing start · Long = long-haul (6–18 months), needs links, content depth, or entity authority first |
| Condition | Priority |
|---|---|
| Low AI risk + transactional/commercial intent | 1 |
| Method-defining authority term with no incumbent owner (the client's stated #1 goal) | 1 |
| Medium AI risk + commercial intent | 2 |

| High AI risk + purely informational, but needed for topical completeness | 3 |
| High AI risk + informational + no strategic tie to the Method | 3 or excluded |
Deliberate deviation from default scoring: a stock keyword model deprioritizes high-AI-risk informational terms. We have overridden that for Cluster 3. Kristen's stated primary goal is brand authority, and authority is measured by citation and recognition, not only by clicks. A page that gets quoted in an AI Overview without a click still moves the Method toward being the recognized standard, and still earns the branded search that follows. Cluster 3 informational terms are therefore scored on strategic value, not click yield — but we flag the click risk honestly in the AI Risk column so nobody is surprised by the traffic numbers.
187 keywords in 4 clusters and 13 sub-clusters.
| Cluster | Keywords | Role in strategy |
|---|---|---|
| 1 — Local / Transactional | 51 | Fills the boat. Pays now. Hardest SERP (Red's Fly Shop). |
| 2 — Learning / Instruction | 46 | Scales the $250/mo virtual product. Geography-independent. |
| 3 — Authority / Method | 68 | The priority. The Method's indexable home. Where the moat is. |
| 4 — Brand / Entity | 22 | Cheap, fast, and structurally required — the name collision is actively costing signal. |
The three things this map says:
The authority cluster is uncontested and the local cluster is not. Red's Fly Shop owns Yakima River search with a decade of content and links. Competing head-on for yakima river fly fishing guide in 90 days is not realistic. But nobody owns trout feeding lie, why do trout refuse flies, or how to think like a trout in a durable, structured, citable way. The asymmetry is the strategy.
The brand name is a liability that is fixable this quarter. "Trout Psychology" reads as a mental-health practice to Google and to humans. Combined with the — SCco. title-tag leakage and the doubled-suffix bug, the entity signal is split three ways (Trout Psychology / Streamside Coven Co. / actual psychology practices). This is a Priority 1 technical + content fix, not a Cluster 4 afterthought.
The neurodivergence sub-cluster is the most underserved audience in this entire map. A decade teaching students on the autism spectrum, credentialed in behavior analysis, running 3:1 ratios — and effectively zero competition in search for neurodivergent friendly outdoor instruction or fly fishing lessons for autistic adults. This is real, it is defensible, and it is currently invisible. It should be a named service page, not a paragraph on an About page.
Structural blocker to note: [CONFIRM] — no published street address and no confirmed Google Business Profile. Every near me and map-pack keyword in Cluster 1 is currently unwinnable regardless of content quality. GBP claim + a serviceable address is a hard prerequisite for roughly 15 keywords in this map. Flag to Kristen in week 1.
Strategic read: This is where revenue is today and where competition is worst. Red's Fly Shop is the dominant Yakima operator with a large content library and years of accumulated links; Troutwater and The Evening Hatch hold regional ground. Head terms here are long-haul. The winnable ground in 90 days is (a) Cle Elum and Roslyn/Suncadia geo-modifiers Red's does not target hard, (b) trip-type qualifiers that match what Trout Psychology actually does differently (streamer-specific, women's, beginner-with-anxiety, 3:1 ratio), and (c) recency-driven river-condition content that AI cannot pre-answer.
AI risk pattern in this cluster: almost uniformly Low. Booking a guide is a local, relational, transactional act — AI Overviews will not close it. This is the cluster with the best click economics and the worst competition. Both things are true.

Note on #15–18: these are the highest-frequency repeat-visit queries in the local cluster and the ones Red's monetizes hardest. Low AI risk (recency defeats AI Overviews) but they demand cadence — a river report is a weekly commitment, not a one-time page. Only commit if Kristen or Nate will actually publish it every week in season. A stale river report is worse than none.

Blocked on GBP.* #25 and #28 (and map-pack visibility generally) require a claimed, verified Google Business Profile and a servable address. Per the client profile this is
[CONFIRM]and likely unclaimed. Until it exists, treat these as not winnable at any content quality**. SeeGBP Optimizerdeliverable.Suncadia (#24) is an underrated play. A destination resort 6 miles from Cle Elum, full of affluent guests looking for an activity, and it is a nearly uncontested search phrase. Low volume, very high intent, near-zero competition. This is the single easiest local win on the board.

#44
streamer fishing guide washingtonis the sharpest local keyword in this cluster. Kristen's specialty, essentially zero competition on the exact phrase, and it self-selects for the angler who wants what she actually does. Low estimated demand, but a booked trip is worth hundreds of dollars — this does not need volume to pay.#48–49 (gift certificates) spike hard in November–December. The cart already exists on-site. Have the page live and indexed by October 1 or the season is missed.
Strategic read: This cluster scales. The $250/month virtual casting lesson is geography-independent, which means the entire national instruction market is addressable — and unlike the local cluster, the incumbent (Orvis Learning Center) is beatable on specificity even if it is unbeatable on domain authority. Orvis teaches mechanics generically to everyone. Trout Psychology teaches reasoning, to a named person, at 3:1, with video analysis. That difference maps cleanly onto long-tail instruction queries.
AI risk pattern: genuinely mixed, and the split matters. Generic "how to cast" mechanics are High risk — AI Overviews answer them, and YouTube owns the rest. But "who will teach me," "is this worth it," "what will this cost," and "will this work for someone like me" are Low risk, because they are decisions about a relationship, not retrievals of a fact. Weight the cluster toward the second kind.

This sub-cluster is the highest ROI-per-effort block in the entire map. Almost every term is Low AI risk, commercial or transactional, VL–L competition, and points at a recurring-revenue product. The SERPs are thin because virtually nobody markets remote casting coaching as a productized subscription. One well-built service page can plausibly own most of this sub-cluster inside a quarter.
Caveat, stated plainly: VL estimated demand means low absolute traffic. Owning all eleven of these may deliver a modest number of sessions per month. But at $250/month recurring, the conversion math tolerates very small numbers.

#94 and #96 are quietly excellent. They are the exact questions a prospect asks the day before booking, they are Low–Med AI risk because the honest answer is "it depends on the instructor," and answering them well is a direct sales conversation. Objection-handling content is underrated in this category.
This is the cluster the engagement is actually about.
Per the strategic position in the client profile: the Method exists in Kristen's head and in Instagram reels that vanish in 48 hours. There is no durable, indexable, citable home for it. This cluster is that home.
How this cluster is scored differently. A conventional keyword model would mark much of this High AI risk / Low priority and move on. We have not, for three reasons:
Naming discipline — important. Wherever the Method has its own vocabulary, publish the branded term alongside the generic one, never instead of it. Target trout feeding lie (what people search) on a page that teaches it in Trout Psychology's language. Category-creating terms are VL on estimated demand by definition; they earn volume by being taught, not by being found.

#98 is the single most important keyword in this document. It is the brand's own phrasing, it is the fundamental skill the Method teaches, YouTube content already exists under that name, and no one owns it in search. This should be the cornerstone pillar page — the URL everything else links to, the page that gets schema, the page that gets pitched for citation. Build it first.
#102, #103, #107, #113, #114 are where behavior analysis is a genuine unfair advantage. "Do trout learn?" is a question the entire category answers with folklore. Kristen can answer it with operant conditioning and reinforcement schedules, correctly, with credentials. That is a defensible, citable position and it is currently vacant.

The
liesub-cluster (#117–120) is a textbook category-ownership play. Build them as one deep, well-illustrated page with proper diagrams and internal anchors rather than four thin posts. Then let #115/#121/#122 — the high-demand, high-AI-risk head terms — feed it.

This sub-cluster maps directly onto the "strategy blueprints" service feature. Every one of these queries is a person standing in a river, frustrated, with a phone. The Method's entire selling proposition is here is how to reason your way out of this. #133, #134 and #136 are Low AI risk because the answer is a decision framework, not a fact — exactly what AI answers badly and what a named human authority answers well.

#140 and #141 are the standout authority terms in this sub-cluster. "Why do they chase and not eat" is the streamer question, it is a behavior question, and Kristen is a behavior analyst who specializes in streamers. The competitive field here is Kelly Galloup — a genuine authority, but one who teaches it as accumulated intuition. A rigorous behavioral explanation is a differentiated answer, not a redundant one.
#146 is the bridge keyword. It is the one term that is simultaneously local, transactional-adjacent, and method-specific. It should link the streamer pillar to the guided-trip page in both directions.

Read this sub-cluster carefully — it is the biggest underexploited asset in the map. A decade teaching students on the autism spectrum, a B.S. in Behavior Analysis, 3:1 maximum ratios, decomposed skills, positive reinforcement, custom curricula, and "you learn best when you're laughing." That is not marketing language retrofitted to an audience; it is a genuinely accessible instructional design that happens to already exist. And search competition for it is effectively nil.
Two cautions, both real:
1. Do not overclaim. Trout Psychology is fly fishing instruction informed by behavior analysis. It is not therapy, not clinical treatment, and not a mental-health service. Every page in this sub-cluster must be unambiguous about that — which, conveniently, is also the fix for the brand-entity confusion in Cluster 4. Get Kristen's sign-off on the exact wording before publishing.
2.[CONFIRM]with Kristen before building. These pages describe a service commitment (sensory considerations, pacing, accommodations). Do not publish them until she confirms what she will actually deliver and how she wants it framed. This is her professional territory, not ours.#151 and #153 are the volume terms — parents and adults searching broadly. They are Med AI risk and low commercial intent on their own, but they are top-of-funnel into #149/#150/#154, which are the ones that convert.

#161/#162 should ship with an actual downloadable river-journaling template. It is already part of the curriculum, it costs nothing to productize, it is a natural email-capture asset, and it is the kind of concrete tool that earns links — which the whole domain badly needs.
Strategic read: This cluster is small, cheap, fast — and structurally load-bearing. Right now the brand signal is split three ways:
Every unresolved fork here dilutes the authority the rest of this map is trying to build. If Google cannot resolve what kind of thing this business is, the Cluster 3 pillar pages inherit that ambiguity.
The disambiguation fix is not primarily a keyword problem — it is an entity problem. Keywords come after: (a) title-tag cleanup, removing — SCco. and the doubled suffix, (b) Organization + LocalBusiness + Person schema naming Kristen and the Method explicitly, (c) the streamsidecovenco.com 301 — already in place and verified, no action, (d) consistent NAP once an address exists, (e) an About/Method page that states in plain sentences that Trout Psychology is a fly fishing instruction company applying behavior science to angling. That sentence is the single highest-leverage string of text on the site.

FAQPageschema gives Google, ChatGPT and Perplexity a clean, quotable entity definition. This is the cheapest high-leverage sentence available.
Streamer Stomp(#185–186) is an owned, branded program with no page. Branded program names are free entity real estate — build the page.
Baseline assumptions for this assessment: no blog exists, no confirmed GBP, no published address, domain authority low, title tags broken. These constraints are as load-bearing as the SERP competition. (An earlier version listed crawler 429s here. Verified not to affect Googlebot (Aug 27, 2026). Confirm once via Search Console → Settings → Crawl stats; no longer a gating issue.)
Important distinction — read before quoting this number. The 90d? column rates SERP difficulty: whether the ranking itself is achievable in 90 days for a low-authority domain. It does not say we can produce 129 pages in a quarter. We cannot. Capacity, not difficulty, is the real constraint on a site with no blog and no content engine.
Realistically shippable in the first 90 days: roughly 30–40 keywords — the Cluster 4 entity set (22, mostly technical fixes to existing pages), the Method cornerstone page and its immediate satellites (~6), the virtual-lessons service page (which can carry most of sub-cluster 2B at once, ~9), and 2–3 location pages. Note that a single well-built page usually owns 5–10 related long-tail terms, which is why the keyword count outruns the page count.
The 129 are concentrated in:
- All of Cluster 4 (22) — brand/entity terms are near-uncontested once the technical fixes land
- 2B virtual instruction (9 of 11) — thin SERPs, no productized competitor
- 3E neurodivergence (8 of 12) — the service-intent terms are genuinely uncontested; the four broad awareness terms (#151, #153, #155, #156) are long-haul. All subject to Kristen's sign-off.
- 3B lies / 3C refusals / 3D streamer long-tail (~25) — VL-demand, zero-competition method terms
- Cle Elum / Roslyn / Suncadia geo (~6) — the geography Red's does not target hard
- Trip-type qualifiers (~8) — streamer-specific, women's, beginner-friendly

1. how to think like a trout (#98) — and the Method pillar it anchors
The brand's own phrase, the fundamental skill it teaches, existing YouTube content already using the name, and no incumbent owner in search. Low AI risk because the honest answer is a framework taught by a person, not a fact to retrieve. This is the cornerstone page for the entire authority cluster, the URL that internal links point at, and the asset most likely to earn AI citations. It directly serves the client's stated #1 goal. Build it first; everything in Cluster 3 hangs off it.
2. cle elum fly fishing guide (#19) + the Cle Elum / Suncadia location cluster
The one local sub-cluster genuinely winnable this quarter. Red's Fly Shop dominates "Yakima River" but does not defend Cle Elum, Roslyn, and Suncadia with the same force. Transactional intent, Low AI risk, real revenue, and it works from a location page today — GBP will amplify it later but is not strictly required to rank organically. suncadia fly fishing guide (#24) is the sleeper: affluent resort guests, high intent, essentially no competition.
3. virtual fly casting lesson (#64) + the 2B virtual instruction sub-cluster
Eleven keywords, nearly all Low AI risk and commercial or transactional, pointing at a $250/month recurring product with no geographic ceiling. The SERPs are thin because almost nobody markets remote casting coaching as a productized subscription. One well-built service page can plausibly own most of this sub-cluster within a quarter. Absolute traffic will be modest — stated plainly — but recurring revenue tolerates small numbers, and this is the offer that scales beyond the number of days Kristen can stand in a river.
Honorable mention — the cheapest win on the board: the Cluster 4 entity cleanup (title tags, 301, Organization/Person schema, and the #187 disambiguation FAQ). Not glamorous, largely technical, ~22 keywords, and it makes every other keyword in this document work better.
